Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

NPHHI tracks quality improvement measures and practices that affect
public hospitals, informs NAPH members about the impact of these
measures and practices, provides educational activities in association with
our strategic partners, and represents the safety net perspective with
national organizations involved in setting quality standards.

Ongoing Efforts

  • June Readmissions 120pxNAPH Members Focus on Reducing Readmissions

    (June 2011) This data brief provides findings from NAPH’s readmissions survey, including strategies for reducing readmissions and populations at high risk for readmissions in NAPH member hospitals.

  • UHC Benchmarking

    NPHHI staff work to involve NAPH members in the University HealthSystem Consortium's Benchmarking and Improvement Services program.

  • Quality Survey and Site Visits

    With support from Kaiser Permanente, NPHHI and UHC worked together to complete a comprehensive study of quality improvement work among NAPH member hospitals.

    This research brief provides an overview of members' efforts to share quality data both internally and externally. The report covers trends in external transparency among public hospitals, the practices implemented to boost transparency, and the impact that greater transparency has had on five member hospitals considered leaders in this area.
